Bluebonnet

We are a non-profit dedicated to the amazing work of doing amazing work. The Blue Bonnet Physiological Society is excited to announce their approval as an official chapter of APS as of early 2024 bringing together physiologists in Texas. The Blue Bonnet Physiological Society was founded by postdoctoral fellows Nicoletta Memos, Ph.D. and Savannah Lusk, Ph.D., in addition to associate professor of Neuroscience Russell Ray, Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Russell Ray has been a member of APS since 2016 and has Co-Chaired the Respiratory Physiology Section Program Working Group (control of breathing) for the last three years. Both Nicoletta and Savannah were enthusiastic to start a Texas chapter after meeting with Harold Shultz and members of the Chapter Advisory Committee at APS 2023. Nicoletta and Savannah led the initiative to connect physiologists from over 85 institutions in Texas and garnered a large interest with over 80 physiologists interested in membership. In April 2024 APS Council approved the formation of the Blue Bonnet Physiological Society. In April 2024 APS Council approved the formation of the Blue Bonnet Physiological Society, and the chapter received their 501(c) nonprofit tax-exempt status in Fall of 2024.

The Society will accomplish this by facilitating collaborative research for members, supporting trainees and students with a career track in a physiology discipline (including clinical and basic science research), disseminating resources for institutional use at all academic levels, and engaging in public outreach to distribute physiology-based research/medical findings to the public within the geographic region of Texas and The Society’s regions. The Society shall provide an inclusive, open environment for the discussion of physiological research and teaching.
